Running in the Fog - Today (Jefferson Airplane cover)

What’s the first thing you think of when someone says Jefferson Airplane? Hippies, right? Well I guess acid or 1960s but whatever. Well this is the anti-hippy. Instead this plays upon the darker side of things. The lovely, lovely vocals are wide open and eery, the bassline is as if a robotic frog got a hold of em and the drums sound has if they were run through the dirtiest of filters. I would include this in the same breath as Glasser or Grimes with better vocals.

You can listen to more of Amanda’s tracks on her soundcloud page and she also has a pretty sweet tumblr.

Hi friends,

This is my daughter Elena Sage!  She was conceived at a rock n’ roll festival (where else?), and she will be the inheritor of my vinyl collection - indeed the real reason I ever started building one in the first place.

She just joined us here in this wild world this weekend, so you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t post for a bit of time. I’ll be busy in another dimension… Have fun out there!

A Grave With no Name - Winter in Japan

Winter whispers all the same, of dreary repetition and a dazed delay. It is earnest and ever more aloof. “Winter in Japan” is the newest track from Alex Shields (the UK artist behind the band). Find more here.

The frost stains the window pane. It feels as if it opts to be opaque, as if its aim is to make our view ever more vague. Frosts sole aim it not to fade. As it does not dissipate, it seems we do. It’s difficult to see you, distressing to be distanced, but the breeze cannot see the barrier it brings. I wonder if you wonder, and worry all the same.

The Deeep - Slow Coaster

This track is like silk, stunning, enthralling, enamored. I only realized the name of the track after listening about 10 times repeatedly, and the name “Slow Coaster” along with the artists name “The Deeep” entirely embodies the track and the indelible impression it leaves the sedated listeners. The beat of the song is sampled from Neil Young’s Mideast Vacation from the much under appreciated 1987 LIFE album. Check out more at their site or myspace and download this track over at their soundcloud.

Devoured by the devious undefinable. Descend into the doors of the disposed. Enter the swallowed land of the spirited and slowly sink into the threshold in which sedative submersion engulfs the succumbing. The abyss seduces the drowning. The staggeringly heavy water scorns the enticed, slowly scheming it’s way up the surface of the sole precisely  placed protection and presents itself upon every crevice of the coveted. swimming beneath the squalid nails, skipping beneath the shore searching eyelids, it captures the unexacting like cold pavement. Searching for the surface you slip further and further down, the abyss enthralls the loathing  lured. Sublime suffocates the swirling sumptuous, deep down, deeper down, solitude has finally swallowed after a slow descent down the throat of the dimmed distance.
